Shortcuts for Teachers
To the left is a link to a demonstration video that shares Word tips and useful keyboard shortcuts that every teacher should know. These tips and shortcuts have been available for a long time but most teachers don't know about them. These are the shortcuts that you may find most beneficial.
Listed below were some of my favorite shortcuts that were new to me.
- Insert a hyperlink: Ctrl + K.
- Change font to all caps: using Shift + F3.
- I liked his word association with the shortcut for paste (ctrl + V): Velcro.
- I had seen the zoom control with mouse before but I always forget what it is. (Ctrl+ roller)
- I like the PowerPoint suggestions about making the screen black or white. (B for Black, W for White). How simple and so effective to use when you need to have a clear screen for their attention.
- I have always struggled with bullet points and the formatting that I really want. Using Shift + Enter within a bulleted list will let you continue writing another paragraph within the last bullet. This will save me many key strokes of enter and backspace and then bullet again—my old clumsy way of doing it.
- I look forward to using Alt + tab to open another document when you are in PowerPoint. That looks so easy and so much more professional than using escape and then finding the document.
- Use Shift and F3 once you have selected text and it will turn the text to all caps. If you do it again, it will change to all lower case. Once more it will return to the original was the text appeared.
- By using the F7 key, the spell check box will appear.
- Use the F12 key for the shortcut for Save As.
- To create a underscore line that fills a line across the document, type the dash (-) three times and then press enter. You can also use the equal sign (=) which makes a double line or a tilda (~) to create a wavy line.
- To create a line for fill in the blank, click on the underscore and then press tab. Adjust the tab in the ruler to create the length of line desired.
